Clubs at BASIS International School Bangkok run from cooking and chess to debate and academic competition. Students cook in our design kitchen, play chess, learn Mandarin, join a book club, and take part in public speaking, Model United Nations, and the World Scholar’s Cup. These clubs help students find interests, build practical skills, and connect with the world around them.

Student life here also rewards initiative. If a student sees a gap, they can propose a club and help build it.

Cooking

Cooking classes use our campus design kitchen, where students prepare dishes step by step and learn about ingredients and following a recipe. Our cooking program uses organic, gluten-free ingredients.

Reading and book clubs

Reading clubs bring students together to read and talk about stories, building comprehension, vocabulary and a real love of reading. Our book club has even included a live online question and answer session with a visiting author.

Chess

Chess is led by specialist instructors, with separate groups for beginners and more experienced players. Students grow concentration, patience and strategic thinking.

Mandarin enrichment

Mandarin classes introduce students to Chinese language and culture through songs, games and everyday conversation, with groups set by experience.

Public speaking, debate and academic competition

Students who like to speak and argue a case can join public speaking and debate, Model United Nations, and the World Scholar’s Cup. The World Scholar’s Cup advances through regional and global rounds to a Tournament of Champions held at Yale University.

Craft and speaking

Craft and Tell mixes making with show and tell. Younger students build something, then present it, which grows creativity and the confidence to speak in front of others.

Thai arts and culture

Thai arts and dance activities celebrate Thai culture and heritage, with students performing at school events such as Songkran and Loy Krathong.

More clubs through the year

Clubs rotate each term based on what students want to do. Alongside the activities above, the school has also offered a Gardening Club, an Outdoor Education Club, and Scouts International.

Students are always welcome to propose a new club where they see a need.

Why these clubs matter at BASIS

Clubs help students work out who they are and what they enjoy. They build practical skills, widen horizons, and give students the chance to lead, serve and contribute. In the kitchen, at the chessboard, or in a debate, students learn to manage their time and work well with others.

A club can also be the start of something bigger. Advanced Placement courses begin in Grade 9, and students who take to debate, Model United Nations or economics can continue into AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, and AP Psychology.
