STEM Activities

Robotics, coding, 3D printing and hands-on science

BASIS International School Bangkok students working on an engineering project

STEM activities at BASIS International School Bangkok give students hands-on time with science, technology, engineering, and making. Students build and program robots, learn to code, design and print in 3D, run experiments, and animate their own short films. Classes use our Science and Technology Building, which has 14 science labs, a design kitchen, 3D printing, a woodshop, and dedicated robotics space.

Students learn by doing, and a first attempt that does not work is treated as part of the process.

Building and inventing

Engineering and inventing classes let students design, build, test and improve their own creations. For younger students, building and LEGO classes introduce structure, balance and simple engineering through guided play.

Design, coding and animation

From first sketch on screen to a finished object or film.

Graphic design and animation

Graphic design classes cover digital design tools and clear visual communication. In stop motion animation, students plan and film their own short animations.

Science and discovery

Real questions, hands-on experiments, and the thinking that goes with them.

Where students build and experiment

  • 14 science labs
  • A design kitchen
  • 3D printing
  • A woodshop
  • Dedicated robotics space

Our Science and Technology Building was set up for hands-on work, so students can take an idea all the way to a working model or experiment. See more on our campus page.

Why STEM matters at BASIS

STEM activities grow the problem-solving, logic and creativity students need for a changing world. By designing, building and testing their own ideas, students learn to work a problem step by step and keep going when a first attempt does not succeed. That approach sits at the heart of the BASIS Curriculum.

Students who want to go further have somewhere to take it. Advanced Placement courses begin in Grade 9, and our AP offerings include AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus and AP Statistics.
