At BASIS International School Bangkok, our Songkran Festival celebration was a day filled with cultural appreciation, joyful activities, and lasting memories. Bringing together students, parents, and staff, our celebration highlighted the rich traditions and festive spirit of Thailand’s Songkran Festival.

The event began with a traditional Merit Making ceremony. Students and parents offered food to monks, honoring a beloved Thai cultural tradition and helping students connect with the roots of Songkran. This meaningful ritual allowed our school community to appreciate the spiritual side of Songkran Festival in Thailand.

Following the ceremony, students enjoyed a variety of Thai cultural activities. They participated in a Blessing Ceremony and engaged in hands-on experiences, including Flower Garland Making, Thai Pottery Painting, and Scented Water Making. These activities provided students with immersive opportunities to learn about Thai heritage and foster respect for the traditions that shape our community.

The highlight of our Songkran celebration was the Water Play event. With giant water slides and splash pools set up on campus, students and teachers joined in the water festivities, creating unforgettable memories. “It’s the biggest and best Songkran party she’s ever been to!” shared a parent of one of our Grade 1 students.

Our Songkran celebration is part of BASIS Bangkok’s commitment to being “Locally Rooted and Globally Connected.” By integrating Thai culture into our students’ learning experience, we nurture their cultural understanding and respect for local traditions. Events like Songkran enrich their education beyond the classroom and strengthen our BASIS community.

At BASIS International School Bangkok, we celebrate, learn, and grow together! We honor local traditions like Songkran Festival while also preparing our students for a globally connected future.
